‘Ideal Types’

The sociologist Max Weber wrote that in order to understand an aspect of social life it is necessary to reduce it to its core and to highlight this (an ideal type) so that others can determine a particular version of reality. My ‘ideal type’ is informed by a desire to uncover the heart of an issue.

I present exciting new research on the origins of New Zealand settler ‘plain’ John Gotty who was the son of a Prussian Count and his wife, a lady famous in her own right, who was the illegitimate daughter of the German literary figure Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. This research has some way to go in terms of being tested but having said that I consider it more than ready for release. Enjoy.
